The
chocolate chip cookie is another amazing dessert that has been found baking in
peoples’ ovens for years. What I find even more amazing was that this cookie
was created by accident in 1930 by Ruth Graves Wakefield. Ruth Graves Wakefield
owned a popular restaurant called the Toll House Inn and one night she was
trying to make Butter Drop Do Cookies but she didn’t have one of the ingredients:
baker’s chocolate. So as a substitute she cut up a semi-sweet chocolate bar and
mixed it in the dough hoping it would melt once it was in the oven. However,
unlike baker’s chocolate, the chocolate bar pieces didn’t melt - they only
softened in the dough, and thus the chocolate chip cookie was born.
